Dead Dog Hole |
River: | Spokane River | City: | State Line, Idaho | Gradient: | Low | Season: | March - June | Volume: | 10000 - 25000 cfs | Grade: | II | Type: | Park-n-Play | Length: | Till vertigo sets in | Time: | Forever | Shuttle: | None | Description: | Dead Dog Hole is probably one of the more popular play spots for
Coeur d'Alene and Spokane area paddlers. It's not one of the most beautiful places to play but offers very convenient, after work park-n-play. Deag Dog is a ledge type hole with a sticky surfers left corner and soft wave like surfers right shoulder. The left corner gets extremely sticky at levels above 15000 cfs and has been the sight of man ego bruisings. At levels between 11000 and 15000 it's a great learning hole with easy spins left and right. At lower levels, the eddy is in the back wash of the hole reducing the intimidation factor for beginners. For advanced paddlers, 15000 cfs and above is a huck fest!!! | Location: | Deag Dog Hole is located at the Idaho/Washington state line, under the old highway bridge. The hole can be see from the highway when traveling West on I-90. To get there, travel 12 miles West of Coeur d'Alene Idaho and take exit #299 off I-90 at the Idaho/Washington state line. Go North through the S-turn and over the river. Just over the river are paved turn-outs on both sides of the road which serve as parking for the play spot. Please be considerate of passing trafic when changing. Have Fun!!! | Spokane River Flow |
