Description:Slate Creek is not typical of the St Joe area, it has more of a B.C. feel to it with a beautiful polished slate bed. After paddling Slate Creek, it is hard to believe that it went un-run untill the Spring of 1996. It is not really that hard of a run, just out of sight and out of mind. That said, once you are in the canyon, the only reasonable way out is down the river. Expect to paddle hard class IV and easy class V depending on the level. Keep a sharp eye out for logs and scout most drops since they have sharp horizon lines, strong reversals and are tight and congested. Get a early start your first time down since scouting will soak up lots of time and the days are short in the canyon. Be safe and have fun!
