Upper Upper Pack |
River: | Pack River | City: | Sandpoint, Idaho | Gradient: | Extreme | Season: | April - July | Volume: | 50 - 250 cfs | Grade: | V - VI | Type: | Creek | Length: | 1 mile'ish | Time: | 2 - 4 hours | Shuttle: | 1 mile'ish | Description: | This is one "Bad Ass" creek run that I had to talk my self into telling anyone about. First, it is quite hard, second, the Devils Club really SUCKS and third, I am just a little selfish. Any detailed description would be useless but here is the general feel of the run. Expect to encounter falls, Devils Club, ledges, granite slides, Devils Club, technical boulder dodging, wood, Devils Club, one very impressive, very steep, very hard, very runnable gorge and did I mention the Devils Club. Despite the Devils Club encountered while scouting, this is a very fun and scenic Idaho gem. | Location: | The putin for the Upper Upper is just off the main Pack River Road where the Chimney Rock Trail Head crosses the river. The takeout is at the wide switchback where the Pack River Road crosses Zuni Creek cascading in from the West. This takeout requires a steep climb up the hill side on river left. You can avoide this march by paddling down to the Middle Upper putin if time permits. |
