Middle Upper Pack |
River: | Pack River | City: | Sandpoint, Idaho | Gradient: | High | Season: | April - July | Volume: | 150 - 500 cfs | Grade: | IV - V | Type: | Creek | Time: | 2 hours | Description: | The Middle Upper Pack starts as a very small stream and cruises along as undefined class II - III boulder dodging. Just a short distance into the run, you will encounter your first horizon line. This first drop signals the beginning of The Slides. Scout the next 100 - 200 yards of river from the left bank. The river opens up a little after the five part canyon and races into the next drop which can be scouted or walked from the left back. Beware, this drop has a ugly knife edge undercut in the right chute. This should be sufficient warm up for the next assault of drops. Expect more slides, a log choked blind left turn, boulder filled drops, a really cool airplane turn through some big boulders, lots of boofing and a little fun play. As usual, always keep a sharp eye out for logs. Be conservative and have fun! |
