Description:Rapid Lightning is more of a Park-n-Huck Creek Run if there is such a thing. There is really only one section of any interest to whitewater paddlers. This section is known as the slide and consists of a class II swiftwater lead in, two 2' ledges and a 35 degree 20' slide into a pool and finally a 5' slot drop. This section is followed by a half mile more of swiftwater class III'ish. The base of the slide is a great spot for cartwheels and the slot downstream offers freewheel potential. Worth the trip if you are in the Sandpoint area.
Location:To get there, travel North East of Sandpoint Idaho on Hwy 200. At mile marker #36 turn North onto Colburn Colver Rd. Go three miles on Colburn and turn right at Rapid Lightning Rd. The Slide is 3 1/2 miles up Rapid Lightning where the road climbs away from the creek. If you just want to play on the slide, put in here. If you want some warmup, travel further upstream untill you find a good place to access the creek on non-private land. Have Fun!!!
