RE: FLATWATER TRAINING

Chris,
After reading the headline, I was thinking you
actually were talking about flatwater training!
HAH got me, you were workin' the undercurrents
now were'nt you?
I, on the otherhand have been taking this drought
season and spending time on LONG flatwater
training/workout paddling an 18 ft speedster on
Priest lake! Glass/kevlar it weighs in at just
over 40 pounds, no rudder, 22 inch beam!
Needless to say this thing moves, albeit in a
straight line and it takes quite some time to do
a 180 degree turn.
Flatwater paddling/training is great for
endurance, paddle stroke work, technique, etc. It
does lack the excitement factor if you remove the
powerboat running you over part of the
equation!
Unfortunately, doing 2-3 hour workouts left me
with a touch of carpal tunnel which has since
cleared up. Quite a difference altogether from
what we are all used to, and I wouldn't want a
steady diet of doing it.
