Lower Lion Creek |
River: | Lion Creek | City: | Priest River, Idaho | Gradient: | High | Season: | March - July | Volume: | 50 - 300 cfs | Grade: | IV - V | Type: | Creek | Length: | 1 - 3 miles | Time: | 1 - 2 hours | Shuttle: | 1 - 3 miles | Description: | Lower Lion Creek looks all together different from the granite slides and cascades of the upper run. Expect technical ledge drops in a broken slate bed with some committed moves and sticky holes. Just like the upper run, wood is a serious hazard but the road is close so scout it out before hand. | Location: | Lion Creek is located at the far North East end of Priest Lake just a 1/2 mile South of Lion Head Camp Ground. The runs takeout is just up stream of the East Side Road bridge at a unofficial camping spot. To find the take out, cross the East Side Road bridge and look for a road to the right. Just up Lion Creek Road is another fork to the right leading to a unofficial camping spot and takeout. The bulk of the good whitewater is just upstream of this takeout and can be easily scouted. To find the putin, travel upstream a couple miles always staying to the right untill you come across another bridge over Lion Creek. Put in here. |
